Managing Director, Investor Relations
Ms. Border is responsible for the advancing and overseeing the firm’s relationships with institutional investors across the U.S. and abroad. She aids in the creation of new investment products, presentation materials, and manages the investor relations team. Ms. Border is the primary contact for NREA’s investment clients and prospects.
Heather Fernstrom Border’s professional experience includes eight years of experience within private sector real estate and finance. During her career, Border held positions at Hunt Investment Management and Townsend Group where she was responsible for assisting institutional clients in developing investment objectives, strategic planning, underwriting investments, and capital raising. Ms. Border also worked for Bancshares of Florida Inc. and for Larson Allen LLC. She has two Master of Science degrees from the University of Denver in Finance and Real Estate/Construction Management. She earned a dual Bachelors of Science degree from Western State College in Accounting and Business Administration. She is a member of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties, Commercial Real Estate Women, and Pension Real Estate Association.
Managing Director, Consultant Relations
Mr. Johnson assists in creating and implementing National’s overall strategy for developing and maintaining relationships with investment consultants. He aids in creation of new investment products, assists in formulating strategies for presentation of investment products to partners and borrowers. He has invested on behalf of and advised multi-employer funds since 1983.
From 1998 to 2005 Mr. Johnson was Director of Equity Real Estate Investment for the National Electrical Benefit Fund. Prior thereto he served as Independent Real Estate Consultant to State Street Global Advisors, the investment management arm of State Street Bank and Trust Company. A former Principal of Aldrich Eastman & Waltch, Inc. (now AEW Capital Management, L.P.), while there (1983-1991) he served in a variety of roles including heading an investment team, as client advocate for four significant AEW clients (Taft-Hartley, corporate and public), and as a member of the AEW Investment and Investment Strategy Committees. Mr. Johnson started his career with Coldwell Banker Commercial Brokerage Company in Chicago (1976-1979), and was with Cohen Financial Corporation from 1979 to 1983.
Mr. Johnson studied economics at the University of Massachusetts and is an active participant in the Pension Real Estate Association (PREA) and the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans. He is a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the Institutional Real Estate Letter – North America.
Director, Investor Relations
Assisting with Investor and Consultant Relations, and with the development of various presentations, Bill also takes responsibility for coordinating standard investor reporting on a periodic basis. With substantial technical expertise, Bill was in the forefront of National's initial investments in alternative property types such as data centers and electricity-intensive properties.
Prior to joining National, he served as Vice-president of Greenfield Development for El Paso Merchant Energy (a division of the El Paso Corporation) as well as Manager of Business Development for Coastal Power, a division of the Coastal Corporation, engaged in both green-field development and the acquisition of fossil-fired power generation projects in both the domestic and international markets. Bill brings more than twenty years of diverse business development experience to National, including reorganizing automotive production facilities in Turkey, the design and manufacturing of off-shore fishing trawlers in China, and a successful tenure at International Business Machines Corporation (IBM).
Bill obtained his BA and MBA in Finance from the American University in Washington, D.C.
Liaison Officer, Investor Relations & Client Services
Reporting to the Managing Director, Investor Relations, Ms. Roman assists the Investor Relations Group with developing and maintaining relationships with real estate investment management consultants, and with existing and prospective clients of National. In addition, she assists with presentations, reports, graphics and marketing and educational materials. She is responsible for organizing and coordinating public relations events, and maintains the National website.
A native Virginian, Ms. Roman holds a BA from Radford University, served previously as Records Manager at National, and has prior experience in account management and client services in the new home construction industry.
